We are part of the Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley NHS Health Care Trust covering a population of approximately 275,000 people in East Lancashire. The department is based at Blackburn Royal Infirmary where we perform most of our In-patient, Out-patient and Day Case work. In-patients are on Ward 2 (Direct Line Telephone: (0)1254 687220). Further Out-patient clinics are held at community hospitals in Accrington and Clitheroe.
We have an 'integrated' department whereby all our In-patient, Out-patient, and Office facilities at Blackburn Royal Infirmary are now together in one area of the hospital. This improves quality of care and allows investigations to be combined with clinic visits. It also cuts down on the need for repeat attendances and enables a 'one-stop clinic' approach.
The department was awarded a Charter Mark in October 1998 at its first attempt. This was given in recognition of "excellence in the provision of public services". We successfuly re-applied for the Charter Mark in 2001. We were awarded the Urology "Team of The Year" by Hospital Doctor magazine in 1999.
